/dev/color and Pinterest are committing to a multi-year, $3 million partnership to continue /dev/color’s mission of changing tech for good while supporting Pinterest’s Black technologists and leaders.

If you came to #dcim22 this year, you might have heard our exciting news!

Last year, we began an epic partnership with Pinterest that aims to continue doing the good work of elevating Black technologists and leaders throughout the tech industry, but especially in /dev/color’s own community and within Pinterest.

As part of the partnership, Pinterest is committing to work with us through a multi-year, $3 million funding initiative that will allow us to continue expanding our reach in the tech industry and beyond.

Together, we will be expanding our collective work in coaching and mentorship programs for Black technologists, software engineers, executives and entrepreneurs. We’re committing to support and broaden community initiatives — like /dev/color’s flagship A* program — to help empower Black technologists. Additionally, we’ll be working to partner with HBCUs to reach the Black technologists of tomorrow.

“We’re excited to take our partnership to the next level and make even more explicit our support for Black technologists, software engineers and executives within the /dev/color community and at Pinterest,” said Rhonda Allen, CEO of /dev/color. “We see this as a tremendous opportunity to deepen the ties across both organizations. This partnership is the first in our history to span such a broad scope, and we are proud to take this step together to team up the incredible Black technologists at /dev/color and Pinterest to create the future they want to see.”

“We see this as an opportunity to really invest big in our focus on developing Black talent,” said Nichole Barnes Marshall, Global Head of Inclusion & Diversity at Pinterest. “This investment is an honor to our shared history with /dev/color as well as our common goal to assure the future of technology is representative of Black talent and the Black community.”

We had the pleasure of having Nichole Barnes Marshall, Global Head of Inclusion & Diversity at Pinterest, and David Chaikin, Chief Architect at Pinterest, join us at #dcim22 this year to kick-off our Friday programming with this exciting announcement. They then joined other members of their team for a chat about life at Pinterest from the perspective of Black technologists — what is sure to be just one of many awesome collaborations we’ll host throughout this partnership.
